What’s In a Name?

I was two years old when my sister was born and at the hospital I was able to go in with the nurse and help give my sister her first bath. After she was all cleaned up, I helped the nurse wheel my sister into my mom‘s hospital room. My parents had been talking about names for my new sister but as I wheeled her into the room I announced look it’s baby Brittany. Luckily the name Brittany was one of the ones they had been talking about and so there she was my new baby sister — Brittany.

This week we are celebrating the birth of Jesus. Scriptures and carols share with us about Jesus’ name and who is.

O Come, O Come Emmanuel

“For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 NRSV).

“This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary.” ~What Child is This

In a world that is filled with chaos I am grateful to once again be celebrating the birth of Jesus who brings hope, joy, peace, and love.

Merry Christmas!

  1. For you shall call his name Jesus.

Naming rights established early. And so we do call his name Jesus and call on him in times of joy and troubles. Right now we have both. Thanks Alyssa
